I was surfing the net looking for an online Quran recital. I know it's easier just to put in the CD and start listening. But, well, remember we give reasons not to be able to complete Tadarus during the month because not enough time, tired, etc. Maybe, this can help...
So, I found few sites... but I got hooked up to Online Quran Reciter - this one is also good for people who wants to hafaz. It also has translation in different languages including Bahasa Melayu. Lovely, isn't it? You need Flash to run this. The only thing is that I had to increase the screen resolution to 1280 by 1024 pixels so I can view the page fully...
Oh... I actually have a question that has been bugging me for years. If anyone can explain to me, I will appreciate it so much. Women are not allowed to recite the Quran during their menses. Why?
There was this talk over the radio that I heard that said women are easier to be influenced by evil stuff, especially during menses because they cannot recite the Quran.
I know we must respect the Book, but what's the reason behind stopping women from reciting the words? Isn't the words protection against evil, so why are women being depraved of this aegis when they are going through a very natural process? I know people say that we can recite silently, dalam hati, but isn't that the same like reciting them out loud?
This question is posted not to encourage debate. More for knowledge and understanding. So, anyone care to enlighten me? Please?

A woman can recite the Quran all the time. To touch the Quran during menstruation is another question tho :-)

Jade, i sometime fear for those inteligent folks who are curious about wanting to know the underlying reasons behind certain commandments.
Some things are best left on its on and we take them in good faith. Logic has no significance in explaining fiqh. That is why students of Islam are required to learn from Ustaz/Ustazah.
Remember the story about Moses and his people where God commands them to sacrifice a heifer?
The children of Israel asked too many questions (some say that's the Jewish way of avoiding the commands) and each time God through Moses replied that the heifer should be neither too old or too young, fawn-coloured heifer, pure and rich in tone, not trained to till the soil or water the field.
For every question they had asked, the choice of heifer gets narrowed down. If the pple would just take the command with good faith and no question ask, any heifer would do for the sacrifice.
BTW,women are required to qodho the fasting they missed (in Ramadhan) during menses but not so for solat. Logically, it doesn't make sense, right? Well, if you are curious then search for the answer or better still attend proper classes or 'kuliah'.

Allah has bestowed upon us 'akal'. I'm sure He intends us to ask questions. It's not about trying to find logical reasons, but more to instil faith and understanding of the hikmah. I believe there is nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong with asking questions when you want to be closer to your Creator.
The Bani Israel on the other hand were just being antagonistic. They have no intention of following the instructions in the first place.
